Since no garden had existed here before and the yard was mostly sand (love the Florida soil!), we added several bags of top soil to each square and a few bags of composted cow manure (Black Kow) as well. Here is the general layout. For entire garden was 20' by 20' with a 2' walkway in between each square. So for every 9x9 square, we used 20 bags of topsoil and 4 bags of manure. This seemed to work pretty well, we dug down about 6 inches into the soil and mixed it all together, getting a few inches of sandy soil mixed in as well.
